WHAT WE KNOW.
Silas Finch, known around Murder Creek as the Secret Santa, was found dead late this afternoon in Morrow Toy House’s main conference room. He suffered a single fatal blow to the back of the head. Police found an overturned chair and scattered papers, but no sign of forced entry. A heavy brass nutcracker made in Pip’s likeness—the apparent murder weapon—was recovered behind a sideboard, wiped clean.
Unsigned papers demanding control of Morrow remained on the conference table, but the folder Silas carried earlier today was missing. A notebook recovered from his coat identified five people to whom he had sent Pip toys. It did not record the messages tucked inside them. Police also know that Silas met privately with several people at Morrow before their departure for the party aboard the Perdido Queen.
