Here’s your chance to die on stage!
Acting Workshop: Stage Combat is where learn how to throw a punch and figure out the most epic way to die on stage… all without getting hurt. A necessity for all actors (both stage and film), you’ll learn the basics and safety of fight choreography on stage with an instructor that has 45 years of experience. We will cover slaps, punches, sound effects, and there might even be some blood (all illusion of course).
Meet your instructors:
Joseph Dean: Joseph Dean has been teaching and choreographing stage combat for 45 years. From a two-person sword fight, to 100 actors strategically fighting on stage in Romeo and Juliet, Joe has taught it all. Previously, Joe worked the Western Cowboy Stunt Shows for Universal Studios and was an instructor for the Burbank Police department in Krav Maga. He merges Krav Maga techniques with standard stage combat. This enhances the illusions on stage and brings the audience into the scene. Joe believes it is vitally important for actors to learn the proper techniques of stage combat, to ensure their safety and the safety of others.
Meagan Daves: Meagan Daves graduated from the University of Loyola New Orleans with a BFA in Art and Theatre. Meagan has worked on all aspects of the stage, from technical direction of lights, sound, projection and set design, to acting under the limelight. She uses her understanding of tech and acting to complement the illusion and safety of stage combat. Her stunt performances have been seen in past shows such as “Into the Breeeches” and “A Midsummer Night's Dream”. Meagan has been Joseph's stage choreography partner for the past 6 months.
