Thirty years ago, Professor Blackwood’s Traveling Show arrived in Murder Creek for what should have been another celebrated season.

Then, beneath a rare blood moon, Evelyn “Evie” Blackwood was murdered on the showgrounds.

A suspect was arrested. The town accepted that the case had been solved. Within days, Professor Blackwood closed the carnival, packed away every wagon, costume, attraction, and prop, and disappeared from public life.

Over time, Evie’s murder became less of a crime and more of a legend. People stopped discussing the evidence and began whispering about a curse.

Now Professor Blackwood’s Traveling Show has returned—and Dr. Eleanor Vale claims that Murder Creek has believed the wrong story for forty years.

OFFICIAL POLICE STATEMENT

Earlier today, the Murder Creek Police Department received an urgent call from a reporter from the Murder Creek Daily News.

When officers arrived at Professor Blackwood’s restored Traveling Show, they found Dr. Eleanor Vale inside Professor Blackwood’s private office wagon. Dr. Vale had been struck on the back of the head with a heavy object and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The office appeared to have been searched. Drawers were left open, papers were scattered across the floor, and Professor Blackwood’s private trunk was standing open.

We have confirmed that Dr. Vale intended to reveal an important document during tonight’s celebration.

That document is now missing.

At least five people met privately with Dr. Vale earlier today. Investigators believe those conversations concerned the future of Professor Blackwood’s Traveling Show.

This ornate puzzle box was recovered during the restoration of Professor Blackwood’s Traveling Show.

Dr. Eleanor Vale believed that something concealed within it could help explain what happened on the night Evie Blackwood was murdered.

It is not currently known whether the box had been opened, what it may have contained, or whether its contents were connected to Dr. Vale’s death.
